Living in Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley!

A few years back, Las Cruces received nationwide recognition as being "Ranked the Best" small metro area to do business (Forbes/Milken Institute), and the top area in the U.S. to retire (Money Magazine). Since then, it seems the rest of the world slowly discovered what we've already known: Las Cruces is a great place to live and do business, and the rewards of such distinction can already be seen on our landscape. The number of custom homes built in the area continues to soar and the Chamber of Commerce records new businesses almost weekly. New restaurants are popping up all over town and Mesilla Valley Mall is undergoing major renovations. Indeed, change is one thing that stays constant in our part of Southern New Mexico.

Inside Las Cruces Magazine you'll find everything you need to settle into the community, or keep yourself updated on the community you live in. We've included sections on healthcare, area schools, real estate and the economy. There are also sections dedicated to the arts and entertainment in the area, which change seasonally, so you'll have to be sure to check in now and again to find out what great events are going on in and around Las Cruces. :)

John Muñoz - Champion of Change
It's not everyday that a person gets the honor of a personal invitation to the White House. That honor came for John Muñoz last September when he was chosen as a "Champion of Change," a group of representatives from the Southwest that were chosen to meet with members of the Obama administration to discuss jobs in the border region. Muñoz was nominated by Mayor Ken Miyagishima, and was chosen based on his accomplishments to represent our region in Washington, D.C. on September 16, 2011. "It was such an honor to be chosen and I was just so overwhelmed with all of the attention I got after the trip," says Muñoz. "I really give all of the credit to the community and to the Hispano Chamber of Commerce."

Austin's Ring Museum
When you walk into Austin's Jewelry you feel a sense of history. Spend a few minutes talking with owner Keith Austin and you'll get a small taste of that history. While most jewelers consume themselves with stones and settings, Austin's passion is the story behind the items he sells and even more so for the rings he collects. Beginning in the summer of 2012, Austin will begin sharing those rings and the stories he's collected at the Austin's Jewelry Ring Museum. Austin's ring museum is the culmination of a lifelong passion for collecting things. "I've collected something all of my life," explains Austin, "but about 10 or 15 years ago I got really passionate and focused my collection on rings."
