Many of today’s women, as so many in the past, face a wide variety of issues. There are careers, kids, husbands, ailing parents and maintaining the home. With each of these comes making appointments, chauffeuring, volunteering, shopping and cooking. With so much to do there is little time for a woman to spend taking care of something as important as the kids and husband . . . herself.
MountainView Regional Medical Center (MVRMC) understands the busy and complicated lifestyles of women today and implemented the Healthy Woman program, designed by women for women, to help empower women through monthly health and lifestyle programs, health resources and regular email communication.
Healthy Woman, a free program, brings together the needs of women and the professionals that can meet those needs. Led by an advisory board and approved by MVRMC, the program offers monthly talks ranging from obesity to genetic testing.
“We are always looking for new topics to cover and that is why we welcome suggestions from Healthy Woman members,” says Ann Morgan, former MVRMC program coordinator. “This is a program that is all about them. We want them to guide us by telling us about their needs.”
Ann spent time within the community looking at ways to partner with the Public Health Department, New Mexico State University and Doña Ana Community College as a way to broaden the influence of the program and the demographics of actual events.
Healthy Woman also hosts an annual health expo and dinner bringing in nationally known motivational speakers. This year, Healthy Woman welcomed Dr. Suzanne Metzger for a second year as the keynote speaker.
