Are working men actually capable of creating a dish in the kitchen that is both presentable and edible? Sixty-seven local “celebrity chefs” volunteered to show their stuff at the second annual Men Who Cook fundraiser for Mesilla Valley Hospice. They prepared and served sample-size portions of their recipes, giving those in attendance a chance to determine if some of these men might have actually missed their calling. Many attendees concluded that at least for a good cause, men could hold their own in the culinary category and for sure help contribute to an entertaining evening.
This year’s event held August 15, 2009, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum included the individual food presentations, a silent auction with intriguing and unique arts, crafts and products and the sale of cookbooks containing all the evening’s recipes.
Mesilla Valley Hospice joins families throughout Doña Ana County who need assistance with end of life care. It provides services in the home, in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and in its own facility, La Posada.
