Davin E. Lopez brought his experience in recruiting new businesses and attracting jobs to the Mesilla Valley on February 9 as the new president of the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance (MVEDA).
When Davin accepted the position he was the vice-president of business development with the New Mexico Economic Development Partnership. He replaces Steve Vierck, former president of MVEDA who left MVEDA in the middle of 2008. Much of the work Steve did prepared the organization to expand economic-based employers while elevating job quality in the area – bringing the community up as a premier area for economic development.
“I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to work with such a good group of people on the staff and Board. I believe that my time at the Partnership was substantially successful and I look forward to a continued working relationship that will be advantageous to both the state and the region,” Davin said. “I am look forward to the unique opportunities that exist at MVEDA and within Las Cruces and Doña Ana County.”
The New Mexico Economic Development Partnership was created in 2003 by Governor Bill Richardson with the sole purpose of recruiting new businesses and attracting jobs for New Mexicans. The organization has created over 11,000 jobs and has located 38 companies into the state since its inception.
“We are delighted to have Davin coming on board with MVEDA. We have had a close relationship with both Davin and the Partnership and expect continued joint successes in the future. There are great opportunities to be had in the Mesilla Valley, even in the current market, and Davin will be a key part of taking advantage of those opportunities,” said Bryn Davis, Chairman of the MVEDA Board of Directors, in January.
Prior to joining the Partnership, Davin spent five years in corporate real estate with two of the largest Real Estate Investment Trusts in the U.S., General Growth Properties (GGP) and the Macerich Company(MACE), where he held roles as director of New Business Development and Strategic Planning. He also spent two years in private business consulting and advising smaller, high-growth companies on their strategic initiatives and growth plans. He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of New Mexico and holds an MBA from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, San Diego.
Incorporated in 1994, MVEDA is a public/private partnership providing economic development services for Doña Ana County and the New Mexico Borderplex. Since 2003, MVEDA has assisted in the expansion of 49 projects in Doña Ana County. These new and expanding companies have created over 2,400 new jobs with an annual payroll in excess of $63 million. |
