The March of Dimes Team Zane Celebrity Waiter event held on March 24, 2011 at the Las Cruces Convention Center was a sold out event with 800 guests in attendance. This annual event was created by local banker Jeffrey Silva. After their son Zane was born prematurely, Jeffrey and his wife Diana dedicated themselves to helping other families going through similar experiences. Zane, now a healthy three-year-old, was the guest of honor for the evening and he wowed the crowd with his Elvis impersonation. Other highlights of the evening, which was emceed by Steve Chavira, were a live band, a magic show with magician Jamie O'Hara, a silent auction and door prizes. Guests also enjoyed a fabulous meal served by one of 25 local celebrity waiters including Mayor Ken Miyagishima, City Counselor Dolores Connor, Memorial Medical Center CEO Paul Herzog, and other prominent community members. All the money raised was donated to the March of Dimes to help save lives and prevent premature births.
