For more comprehensive information, please visit their website.The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is an organization with a mission to improve the educational value of available child care facilities. Founded in 1926, NAEYC now has almost 100,000 members, and a worldwide network which interfaces daily with other organizations concerned with the quality of learning presented through child care facilities today. The following is a list of suggestions by NAEYC for things to look for when choosing high quality child care.
- Happy, relaxed children.
- A good caregiver to child ratio. All age groups should have
at least two teachers.
- Expected child behavior appropriate to the child’s age.
- Equal stress on all areas of child development.
- Regular meetings by the staff to plan and evaluate activities
and programs.
- An open, welcome attitude towards parents or guardians at
anytime to observe, discuss policies, make suggestions
and/or participate.

NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF
CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES
The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department provides an array of prevention, intervention, rehabilitative and after-care services to New Mexico children and their families. CYFD protects abused and neglected children, rehabilitates delinquent and incarcerated youth and provides child care subsidies, promotes and supports quality child care and administers statewide domestic violence programs.
